What We Do...
Intern Program
Since 2011, native Spanish speaking interns have enhanced the immersion experience by supporting the development of oral and written language, and bringing culture into the classrooms. To date, we have hosted more than 35 interns from Spain, Ecuador, El Salvador and Colombia for the full year, living with host families for 1/2 year or full year terms.
Teacher/School/Library Grants
Apoyemos is able to fulfill grant requests from teachers and administrators. Since 2006, Apoyemos has funded over $120k in grants, providing our teachers and students with textbooks, library books, bilingual teacher conferences and education, technology and other classroom projects, like the student-published Punta y Letra Newsletter and other materials.
8th GRADE CAPSTONE TRIP
Each year, the 8th grade West Sylvan Spanish Immersion students are given the opportunity to travel to San Isidro, Costa Rica for an international homestay experience. The trip offers the students the chance to gain cultural and global awareness and reinforce their Spanish language skills by participating in language classes, a fully immersive program with a Costa Rican family, service opportunities and exploring the Arenal Volcano area. A portion of funds raised by Apoyemos provides needs-based scholarships, allowing the maximum number of students to participate.
